TEACH Trails of East African Cultural Heritage

Many early Western explorers relied on the traditional routes and knowledge of African traders and travellers.

Their extensive written narratives, although often biased by Western or personal perspectives, testify of a lively East African history of communicative, commercial and political exchanges.

Connecting their narratives with current and past culture and heritage of East Africa, this project moves beyond the wildlife dominated tourism industry to provide tourists deeper experiences of place and history and the local communities economic opportunities for the future.
